Cinova is a social movie- and TV-discovery app. This policy explains what
information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the
choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain language.
The short version: We collect the information you give us
(your account details and the ratings, lists, and posts you create) and use
it to run Cinova and personalize your recommendations. We do not
sell your data, and we do not use third-party advertising or
tracking SDKs. You can delete your account and data at any time from within the app.
Who we are
Cinova (the "Service") is operated by Cinova LLC, a limited
liability company organized in Maryland, United States ("Cinova,"
"we," "us," or "our"). If you have any questions about
this policy, contact us at
[email protected].
Information we collect
Information you provide
Account information — your email address, username, display
name, and password. (Passwords are stored hashed; we never see them in plain text.)
Google sign-in — if you choose to sign in with Google, we
receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google to create your account.
Profile details — anything you add, such as a profile photo,
favorite genres, and taste preferences.
Your activity and content — the ratings and scores you give,
reviews or notes you write, watchlists and lists you build, comments you post,
and the people you follow.
Information we generate as you use Cinova
Recommendation and taste data — to personalize what you see,
we record your in-app activity (for example, the titles you swipe on, rate, or
search for) and use it to build a "taste profile" that powers recommendations.
Search history — your recent searches, stored to your account
so your experience is consistent across devices.
Social graph — your followers, who you follow, and follow
requests, including whether your account is public or private.
Technical information
Device and log data — basic information such as device type,
app version, and error/diagnostic logs needed to keep the app running reliably.
Local storage — some preferences are stored on your device.
We do not collect payment information (Cinova is currently free),
and we do not include third-party advertising networks or
analytics/tracking SDKs in the app.
How we use your information
To create and operate your account and provide the Service's features.
To personalize your feed, recommendations, and search results.
To enable social features like following, sharing, and comments.
To send you essential account emails (such as password resets and
notifications you've enabled).
To keep Cinova secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
To comply with legal obligations.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited cases:
Other users — content you choose to make visible (your profile,
public ratings, posts, lists, and comments) is shown to other Cinova users
according to your privacy settings.
Service providers who process data on our behalf, under
contract, to run the Service:
Supabase — our database, authentication, and storage provider.
Resend — our email delivery provider (processes your email
address to send account emails).
Google — only if you use Google sign-in.
Legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights,
safety, and security of Cinova and its users.
Business transfers — if Cinova is involved in a merger,
acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal.
Movie and TV data
Movie and TV metadata, images, and ratings shown in Cinova are provided by The
Movie Database (TMDB). This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or
certified by TMDB. We do not share your personal information with TMDB.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete
your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where we
are required to keep certain records to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes.
Your rights and choices
Access and update — you can view and edit your profile and
content from within the app.
Delete your account — you can permanently delete your account
and associated data at any time from the app's settings.
Privacy controls — you can make your account private and manage
who can follow you.
Regional rights — depending on where you live (for example, the
EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional
rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to certain
processing. To exercise these rights, contact
[email protected].
Security
We protect your information using industry-standard measures, including encryption
in transit, encryption of data at rest with our hosting provider, and per-user
access controls so users can only access data they're permitted to. No method of
transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and
promptly address issues.
Children's privacy
Cinova is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect
personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us
personal information, contact us at
[email protected] and we will delete it.
International users
Cinova is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside
the U.S., your information will be processed in the United States, where data
protection laws may differ from those in your country.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll
update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
